PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Provide leadership, coordination, collaboration, and innovation in reading curriculum and instruction, so that each student may derive maximum benefit from the reading curriculum.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree required

Master’s degree in reading preferred 

Valid Texas teacher certificate

Reading Specialist Endorsement

Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing education/to promote professional growth

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Thorough understanding and knowledge of literacy instruction

Knowledge of the needs of students requiring remedial reading instruction

Ability to use diagnostic data to tailor instruction to meet the needs of student(s)

Ability to evaluate reading instructional programs and teaching effectiveness

Proficient knowledge of research-based instructional practices for reading and writing techniques

Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills to build and maintain trusting relationships with adults

Calm and patient demeanor with all staff, students, and administrators

Ability to guide and train teachers in effective techniques and strategies

 

Experience:

Minimum of three to five years as a classroom teacher
